• Safari Tips

Here are a few tips for your Kenya safari holiday to make the most of your trip.

    What to Bring

Make sure you stay hydrated on your safari adventure and take plenty of bottles of water. If you are visiting during the hot dry season take a hat to protect yourself from over sun exposure. With that in mind bring sunscreen and bug guard as well.

    What to Wear on Safari

In the mornings and evening it is best to bring with you a light jacket or jumper to keep you warm when temperatures are lower. Women travelling on safari should wear trousers or long skirts, as most areas do not accept women in shorts or short skirts. Try and steer clear of bright coloured clothing and keep to neutral colours so you don’t startle any wildlife.

    Taking Photos

For the best photo opportunities of exciting wildlife it is best to go in the morning or early evening when the light is ample for photography. Your vehicle driver will know the best angles and shots so don’t be afraid to ask for some advice from them! If you want to take photos of locals always ask permission as some tribal groups can be offended because of their social and religious beliefs. Also be aware that some may even charge you money for you to take a picture of them.

    Tipping

Tip your tour guide in their preferable currency of US dollars. A customary tip of $2 to $5 for a day on safari is adequate.

  • Safari Health Advice

Before you go on your Safari holiday, be sure to be aware of health and safety advice you should follow.

Consult your doctor for information on malaria prevention preparation alongside any Web information on the region you will be going to. Visitors to Nairobi and the higher altitudes should also be taking prophylactic treatment. Treatment should start one week before departure and continued throughout the duration of the visit and for six weeks thereafter.

Consider long-term basic health protection such as vaccinations against Tetanus, Typhoid, Yellow fever and Hepatitis A. It is mandatory for Kenya visitors be vaccinated for Yellow Fever. You have to prove this so bring your inoculation card and it will be checked at the airport.
