Legal Requirements
For a wedding to take place in Kenya, there are some legal requirements that must be adhered to. We can arrange all these for you and make your wedding planning as smooth as possible.

Official requirements for a Kenya wedding:

  • It can only take place after a 4 day minimum stay in Kenya.
  • 2 working days must be spent in Nairobi before the wedding takes place.
  • There must be a civil registration ceremony in Nairobi before any religious and other ceremony in Kenya.
  • The following documentation is required for a wedding in Kenya:
  • Valid passports / identity cards and visas
  • Original copies of birth certificates
  • An affidavit from a solicitor or notary declaring that you are both single and eligible to marry

If applicable, these details also apply:

  • If under 21 years, written permission from parents / guardians (in the form of an affidavit)
  • If divorced, a Decree Absolute
  • If widowed, previous Marriage Certificate and spouse’s Death Certificate
  • If adopted, all adoption papers
  • If you have changed your name, all relevant paperwork
  • If you plan to marry in a church it is helpful to supply a supporting letter from your home priest / pastor

Weddings can be conducted all year around except for the following dates:

  • All Kenyan Public Holidays
  • Good Friday
  • Easter Monday
  • Christmas Day
  • New Year’s Day
  • Between 20th December to 3rd January
